Healthy Oils for Arthritis
Olive oil has fats that healthy for your heart and also contain oleocanthal, which has similiar characteristics to taht of nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs. By using different types of oils in your diet you can gain several different types of vitamins, fats and antioxidants, and some of the fats also have anti-inflammatory properties.
Here are some additional oils you should look at adding into your diet.
Grapeseed Oil
Grapeseed oil is rich in vitamin E and beneficial polyunsaturated fats including oleic acid (an omega-9 fatty acid that helps suppress food cravings) and is extracted from, wait for it, grape seeds!
It’s good for cooking and can also work in marinades with its clean, light flavor.
Avocado Oil
This oil is loaded with monosaturated fats and has been shown to boost HDL levels (the good cholesterol) and also lowers the level of C-reactive proteins (a marker in the blood for inflammation). This oil is best for stir frying because it can handle the high heat.
Tip: Replace olive oil with avocado oil as a cooking alternative.
Walnut Oil
When compared to olive oil, walnut oil has more than 10 times the amount of omega-3 fatty acids. The advantage of this is that your body will burn more calories after you eat a meal that is higher in walnut produced omega-3′s than it will after eating a meal that is higher in saturated fat. It’s best to not heat this oil up but to use it in salads and tossing pasta.
Safflower Oil
This is the last oil we’ll be talking about. Safflower oil doesn’t have much of a taste but it has several health measures that include lower cholesterol levels, stomach fat, regulating your blood sugar levels, insulin sensitivity, and the most important inflammation. A couple teaspoons of safflower oil a day will help you achieve all of the above. Some uses could be in salad dressings, dips, and drizzle it over your fish for cooking.
Give these healthy oils a try and see which ones will work for you. They’re all available at most of your local grocers.
